Origin of the name

The In Arabic dictionaries the word Golan has several meanings:
-In "Lisan al Arab" it means doing well in war, or
Making a round of fiqhting, or move around a certain
Place continuously.
-In "al Tahtheeb": Golan is a village in the Levant  
(Bilad al Sham).
-In "al Mukhassas": Golan is a mountain in the Levant.
-In "al Muheet": Golan is the land where the wind
Agitates dust, pebbles and dry weeds; elements
Abundant in the Golan.
- In "al Munjid al Jaghraphy" (Geographic Guide)
Golan is a plateau east of Jordan. It is called so after the soil it has, and because many sessions of wars took place on its ground in different epochs of history.
Romans called it Golanited .The word Golan was mentioned hundreds of times in pre Islamic Arab poetry.
